Fall Engagement Photoshoot at radnor lake

Getting engaged is such a beautiful, fun season of life. It’s a time full of excitement as you look ahead to the life you will build with your soon-to-be partner for life. I was honored to get to capture Ryan & Grace’s relationship at Radnor Lake, a beautiful park in the heart of Nashville, TN. This city is littered with beautiful parks if you’re looking for a more natural environment to take photos without having to drive outside of the city. Radnor Lake is one of my favorites, along with Percy Warner Park and Shelby Bottoms in East Nashville.

My favorite part of this session was simply having fun with this wonderful young couple. At there core, I want my sessions to be fun for clients. Engagement photos should reflect the personalities of the people being photographed. I love working with couples to make their unique personalities and relationship come to life. Sometimes capturing people being their true, authentic selves can be a challenge, but these two were so comfortable with each other it made my job capturing their essence so much easier. Shoots like these are what’s lead me to fall in love with photography. Creating these lasting memories for people and their families to look back on years to decades from now bring me great joy. And I don’t take these opportunities for granted.

Fall is a lovely time at Radnor Lake. This year, a couple of bald eagles nested along the edge of the lake, which drew many bird watchers and wildlife photographers alike. There’s a path that wraps all around the lake that’s filled with multiple scenic spots to pose your couples or families. All the shades of yellows, oranges, reds and browns make for gorgeous, natural backdrops. While walking between spots there’s great opportunity to capture candid’s of clients being natural. Good, structured posing is important, but it’s fun to see what couple’s do in those “little moments” in between the moneyshots. Time after time I’ve found that’s where the real gems lie. My favorite spot was a location along the walking trail I didn’t plan for the shoot. While walking I noticed a bench with a stunning maple tree with bright orange leaves (photos below!). The shots here turned out to be among some of my favorites from the shoot! Thank you to Ryan & Grace for putting up with my spontaneity.
