Fall Family Photoshoot at percy Warner park
In November, I had the luxury of photographing this family at Percy Warner Park. They were my largest family to date, so I was eager to experience photographing a family of seven. I chose to organize the shoot as best I could, and tried to leave some room for the kids to have natural breaks. With young kids involved it’s important to make the shoot as fun as possible.
I love to incorporate a lot of movement into my shots. While some may look “posed”, like the whole family shot below, I’d consider this more of an “action pose”. It can be a challenge to capture genuine moments of joy and real smiles with the “okay, say cheese” poses. However, I still value those poses in shoots because they are traditional and will always stand the test of time. With this whole family shot below, I pose mom + dad + baby first and then tell the rest of the kids on the count of 3, run and hug your mom and dad as big and fast as you can! Kids love any excuse to run around. I love this action pose with families because it always provides real expressions of joy. Even with this same prompt at different shoots, it routinely reveals every family is different and responds to playful moments in their own unique ways.
What I enjoyed most about this shoot was how playful this family was with one another. At any time in between shots or walking to a different location, someone was chasing someone or goofing off. I love capturing those moments almost more than posing people where they need to be. After all, these moments are real, and show how people are in their day to day lives. Pictures of the boys playing with their dad will be invaluable one day in the future. So many of these shots made me smile while editing. I love providing these moments in time for families.
When I first thought about what kind of clients I wanted to target, families weren’t high up my list. I couldn’t have been more wrong. I’ve loved every minute of it, and I’m so excited to continue to work with more families in the future.
After the shoot, here’s what Lindsay had to say about working with me: “Here is my 5star review! Daniel is a gem and his photos will be your new favorites! He captured our family of seven in a beautiful, bright, and raw way that filled my heart so much when I first saw the photos. Major bonus, he is AMAZING to work with. Kind, professional, flexible, and full of life. Such a great experience. Cannot recommend him enough!”
