Golden Hour Family Photoshoot at Cornelia Fort Airpark

I recently had the opportunity to work with this beautiful family of 3 at one of my top shoot locations in East Nashville, Cornelia Airpark. When Megan reached out to me via my contact page she wrote she was looking for an open field to do a cowboy theme for her son’s 2nd birthday. What better place in the city of Nashville than Cornelia!

I’ve shot here before in the past, but shoots here in the summer during golden hour are pure magic (check out my gallery of a family shoot here on an overcast day here.) The old airplane hangars, original runways, open fields of tall grass and in the summer / spring there’s a gorgeous wildflower garden by the entrance, all making for stunning backdrops.

When editing these images I really wanted to tap into creating a nostalgic or vintage feel. Something about the way the light was hitting my subjects and way this family was holding and interacting with each other felt like I was watching short snippets from old family videos on film. It’s always so fun working with clients who want to get creative and are open to different prompts / poses that lead to capturing pure moments.

I wish I could say this session went without any issues. Prior to the shoot mom and dad bought a “2” ballon to attach to the chair prop. As soon as we tried tying it down to shoot other portraits… it blew away in the wind. We all just sort of stood there for a few seconds hoping the gust would die and bring the ballon back down to earth, but alas, our hopes were to no avail. All we could do was laugh about it. It’s moments like these that as a photographer you got to try and keep the energy up and get everyone back in the mood to create beautiful images. Anyways, check out some of my favorites from the gallery below!
